While some riders enjoy conversations in the car, other riders prefer a quiet trip to relax or focus on their work. While you are certainly not required to be silent during every trip, please be sensitive to riders who may not wish to engage in conversation. 

How can I improve? 

The best way to avoid such complaints is to let the rider lead the conversation. Be friendly and say "hello" when the rider first gets into the car, then use your best judgment. If the rider doesn't seem to be engaging in conversation, then silence could be key here.
