5 simple steps to getting a new york city tlc license
Please note: You can do steps 1-4 in any order
The TLC requires all applicants to have taken a defensive driving course within the last 3 years, and get examined by a doctor within the past 90 days.
Schedule a one-day session at the Uber office where you can get all these requirements completed in a single visit.
If you have a NY, you'll need to upgrade it to a Class E license (or a CDL)
If you have an out of state license, you likely don't need to change it, but you need a certified abstract from your state's DMV.
You are applying for a "For-Hire Driver" license, the license is $84/year for 3 years ($252 total)
Make sure you print your application once you've submitted it
You'll get a confirmation email with your application number, and the date you need to drop off your application at the TLC.
You cannot drop off your application until you've completed all the above steps.
The TLC will mail you with an appointment time. You must go on that day/time. If you need to reschedule, just be aware that doing could push back your appointment by 2 weeks.
After completing your appointment, you'll need to take a Wheelchair Accessibility Training class, and an FHV-Training class.
Make sure you bring everything on the checklist with you to the TLC.
